Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal will visit the United States from September 29 to October 5, to participate in the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting and hold discussions with American industry leaders, investors, startups and members of the Indian community.
Goyal will attend the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 30 and October 1 at the invitation of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR). The meeting will bring together trade ministers from G20 member countries to discuss issues related to global trade and the multilateral trading system.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India will engage constructively with all G20 members and work towards a rules-based, open, inclusive, transparent, equitable and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system, with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core, while seeking adequate policy space for developing countries.
On the sidelines of the G20 meeting, Goyal will hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts. The talks will focus on expanding trade and economic opportunities for farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs, startups, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other businesses.
India-US trade agreement talks
Goyal will also hold bilateral discussions with his US counterpart as part of ongoing efforts to advance a balanced and mutually beneficial India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
The engagement will focus on taking forward the negotiations and working towards an interim agreement in line with the Joint Statement issued by India and the US on February 7, 2026.
Engagement with American industry and startups
During his visit to Milwaukee and Chicago, Goyal will meet chief executives of leading American companies operating in manufacturing, consumer goods, agri-business, retail and technology.
He will also participate in roundtables with businesses, startups and innovative companies, highlighting the opportunities India offers as a manufacturing and investment destination.
The Minister will invite American companies to deepen partnerships with Indian enterprises and explore opportunities for greater trade, investment and business collaboration.
Gandhi Jayanti and community engagements
In Chicago, Goyal will pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti and Swami Vivekananda. He will also interact with professional associations representing the Indian community in the United States.
The Ministry said that the visit is expected to further strengthen the trade and investment partnership between India and the United States and deepen India’s engagement with its G20 partners.
