Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted India’s readiness to host the 18th BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held on September 12-13, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Sharing a video showing preparations for the summit on X, PM Modi said, “All set for BRICS 2026!”.
India assumed the BRICS Chairship for 2026 on January 1, marking its fourth time leading the grouping after previous chairships in 2012, 2016 and 2021. The year also marks 20 years since the establishment of BRICS.
India’s BRICS 2026 theme
India’s Chairship is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting the Prime Minister’s vision of a people-centric approach based on the principle of “Humanity First.”
The upcoming summit will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries, along with outreach invitees. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation within BRICS on common priorities, besides exchanging views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
Over 350 meetings held across India
Under India’s Chairship, more than 350 meetings and high-level engagements have been organised across over 25 cities in the country.
These engagements have focused on strengthening the BRICS strategic partnership across three broad pillars – political and security cooperation, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Business-to-business and people-to-people initiatives have also formed an important part of India’s Chairship, with the focus on practical and development-oriented outcomes.
As a founding member of BRICS, India has played a significant role in shaping the grouping since its establishment. The 2026 Chairship provides an opportunity for India to further advance cooperation among member and partner countries while addressing shared global and regional challenges.
