PM Modi meets Philippines President on sidelines of 18th BRICS Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in New Delhi on Sunday on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, with the two leaders discussing ways to further strengthen bilateral ties across key areas of cooperation.

PM Modi welcomed the Philippines’ participation in the BRICS Summit in its capacity as the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

During the meeting, the two leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation across various sectors. They agreed to further deepen and expand collaboration in defence and security, trade and investment, space, railway infrastructure, fintech, education, tourism, science and technology, innovation and people-to-people ties.

The leaders also agreed to advance bilateral relations under the Strategic Partnership established between India and the Philippines in August 2025 during President Marcos’ State Visit to India.

PM Modi also welcomed the Philippines’ decision to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), an India-led global partnership focused on strengthening the resilience of infrastructure against disasters.

The two leaders exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest and reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation across all areas covered under the India-Philippines Strategic Partnership.
