Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday remembered and honoured the victims of the horrific September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States on their 25th anniversary and expressed solidarity with the families whose lives were forever changed by the tragedy.
In a post on X, PM Modi said terrorism has claimed countless lives across the world and underlined India’s longstanding experience in confronting the threat of cross-border terrorism.
“25 years on from the horrific 9/11 attacks, we remember and honour the victims and stand in solidarity with the families whose lives were forever changed,” the Prime Minister said.
He noted that India, as a victim of cross-border terrorism, has been at the forefront of the global fight against terrorism for several decades.
“Terrorism has claimed countless lives around the world. As a victim of cross-border terrorism, India has been at the forefront of this fight for several decades,” he said.
PM Modi stressed that although the nature of the terrorist threat continues to evolve, India’s commitment to opposing terrorism remains firm.
“While the threat keeps evolving, our resolve and opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations remain unwavering,” he said, adding that India stands in solidarity with all efforts to combat terrorism.
The Prime Minister also shared glimpses of his visit to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York in 2014.
The September 11, 2001 attacks remain one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in modern history. Nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger aircraft as part of a coordinated attack in the United States. Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York, while another struck the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth aircraft crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew attempted to regain control.
The attacks killed nearly 3,000 people and had far-reaching consequences for global security, counterterrorism policies and international relations.
On the 25th anniversary of the attacks, PM Modi’s remarks reiterated India’s call for a united global response against terrorism and its opposition to the threat in all its forms and manifestations.
