Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday thanked BRICS member countries and their leaders for the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Declaration, saying it reflects the confidence of a grouping that is “wider in reach and stronger in purpose”.
In a post on X, PM Modi said the declaration focuses on innovation, sustainability and people-to-people ties, with the aim of making BRICS cooperation more practical, development-oriented and responsive to the aspirations of its member nations.
“The New Delhi Declaration, adopted unanimously at the 2026 BRICS Delhi Summit, reflects the confidence of a BRICS that is wider in reach and stronger in purpose. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, people-to-people ties and more, the endeavour is to make cooperation more practical, development-oriented and responsive to the aspirations of the BRICS nations. I thank all the fellow BRICS nations and their leaders for its adoption,” said PM Modi in a post on X.
BRICS to Deepen Cooperation in AI, DPI, Quantum Technologies, Startups
Highlighting the future-oriented agenda outlined in the declaration, PM Modi said BRICS will deepen cooperation in emerging and strategic areas including artificial intelligence, Digital Public Infrastructure, quantum technologies, startups, MSMEs, science and research.
He also said the grouping will strengthen the New Development Bank and work collectively on food, health, energy security, supply chains and sustainable infrastructure.
“The Declaration also looks firmly to the future. BRICS will deepen cooperation in AI, Digital Public Infrastructure, quantum technologies, Startups, MSMEs, science and research. We will strengthen the New Development Bank and work together on food, health, energy security, strong supply chains and sustainable infrastructure,” said PM Modi on X.
BRICS Stands for Reform, Peace and Stronger Global South Voice
In a broader message on the significance of the declaration, Prime Minister Modi said BRICS must respond to changing global realities by keeping development at the centre of the international agenda and ensuring greater weight for the voice of the Global South.
He said the grouping stands for dialogue, reform, peace and a more representative multilateral order, while maintaining a firm position against terrorism, double standards and threats to international stability.
“In the current global context, the New Delhi Declaration carries a larger message that: Institutions must evolve with realities. Development must remain at the centre of the global agenda. The voice of the Global South must be heard with greater weight. BRICS stands for dialogue, reform, peace and a more representative multilateral order. At the same time, BRICS will keep speaking firmly against terrorism, double standards and threats to international stability,” he posted.

The BRICS grouping on Saturday adopted a joint declaration by consensus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the adoption of the declaration at the end of the opening day’s deliberations at the two-day India-hosted summit.
India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Saturday and Sunday, September 12-13, bringing together leaders from BRICS member and partner countries as well as outreach invitees.
India’s BRICS Chairship is guided by the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting PM Modi’s vision of a people-centric approach rooted in the spirit of “Humanity First”.
