Rajasthan-based terracotta and visual artist Chandra Shekhar Sain has been selected by the Lalit Kala Akademi for the prestigious National Akademi Award at the 65th National Exhibition of Art, 2026.
Sain, selected for his terracotta work “My Entire World-I”, is the only artist from Rajasthan among this year’s awardees, the statement said.
Sain works primarily with terracotta and draws inspiration from Rajasthan’s folk and archaeological traditions, including Kalibangan and Molela. His works explore themes such as nature, memory, organic forms, birds, animals, seeds and trees.
He received the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi State Art Award in 2014 and has held more than 10 solo exhibitions across the country, besides participating in national exhibitions organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi.
He has also exhibited and delivered a lecture at Casa de la India in Valladolid, Spain, through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the statement said.
