Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will undertake a two-day visit to Mathura from Thursday to participate in Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations and inaugurate development projects, officials said.
Adityanath will arrive in Mathura on Thursday afternoon and chair a meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Brij Teerth Vikas Parishad. He will also inaugurate various projects, including the Sri Haridas Auditorium built at the Geeta Shodh Sansthan at a cost of around Rs 42 crore.
The auditorium project was initiated by Mathura MP Hema Malini.
The chief minister will also plant saplings at the Geeta Shodh Sansthan campus before visiting the Sri Bankey Bihari temple in Vrindavan to offer prayers.
On Friday morning, Adityanath will perform Gau Pujan at Sri Krishna Janmasthan and offer prayers at the temple, following which he will also address devotees.
Janmashtami marks the birth of Lord Krishna, who is revered as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The festival is celebrated with devotional singing, prayers, fasting and midnight rituals commemorating Krishna’s birth.
Mathura and the surrounding Braj region have a special association with the festival as Mathura is regarded as the birthplace of Krishna, while nearby Vrindavan, Gokul and other parts of the Braj region are closely associated with his childhood and early life. The celebrations draw large numbers of devotees to the region every year.
