Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday paid floral tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya at Uprashtrapati Bhawan on his birth anniversary, recalling his commitment to placing the nation and service to the nation above himself.
In a post on X, Vice President Radhakrishnan said: “Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Ji was a prominent thinker and social reformer who dedicated his life to the service of the nation. He strongly advocated Integral Humanism, seeking to place the individual, society and nation within a harmonious framework rooted in Indian thought and traditions.”
“He always placed the nation and service to the nation above himself. On his birth anniversary, I remember his life of simplicity, dedication and selfless public service,” he added.

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya (September 25, 1916 – February 11, 1968) was a politician, philosopher, economist, sociologist, historian, and a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He propounded the concept of ‘Antyodaya ’, which means the “rise of the last person”. He stressed on ‘Antyodaya’ to rid the nation of extreme poverty, which also formed a part of his core philosophy of “Integral Humanism”.
A revered icon of Integral Humanism, Deendayal Upadhyaya was an ideologue and a guiding force for an alternative model of governance and politics. He envisioned for India a decentralized polity and self-reliant economy with the village as the base.
