19th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas Convention to be held in Kolkata from January 7-9, 2027

The 19th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) Convention will be held in Kolkata, West Bengal, from January 7 to 9, 2027, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

The three-day convention will be organised by the MEA in partnership with the West Bengal government and will bring together members of the Indian diaspora and other stakeholders from across the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the convention, while President Droupadi Murmu will confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards and preside over the valedictory session.

The convention will also feature a Youth PBD segment, with young diaspora leaders expected to participate alongside entrepreneurs, professionals, academics, innovators and other members of the Indian diaspora.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas is observed on January 9 to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915.

The 19th edition of the flagship diaspora engagement event will build on previous editions to strengthen the longstanding connections between the Indian diaspora and India and recognise their contributions to the country as well as the wider world.

The Ministry said further details regarding the convention, including registration and the programme schedule, would be shared in due course.

For immediate enquiries, members of the Indian diaspora may contact their local Indian Embassy or Consulate.
