In a bid to revive the charm of handwritten communication in an increasingly digital world, the Department of Posts, under the Ministry of Communications, collaborated with IndiGo to organise a unique Digital Detox Campaign on October 12, observed as Philately Day during the ongoing National Postal Week celebrations from October 9 to 15. The initiative encouraged air travellers to step away from their digital devices, put their thoughts on paper and reconnect with loved ones through handwritten letters.
At 30,000 feet, passengers traded screen time for the simple pleasure of writing postcards, embracing a moment of reflection and meaningful human connection amid their journeys. The campaign brought the timeless tradition of letter writing into the skies, offering travellers a refreshing break from their digital routines.
As part of the initiative, passengers on selected IndiGo flights received specially designed Digital Detox kits containing postcards. Travellers flying across Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai participated in the campaign, writing messages to their loved ones and dropping the postcards into specially placed India Post letter boxes at the arrival airports for onward delivery. The postcards featured iconic landmarks from the participating cities, adding a distinctive local touch to the initiative, according to a press release from the Ministry of Communications.
Capturing the experience, a passenger on board said, “In a time of blue ticks, I wrote a postcard at 30,000 feet! Somewhere between the clouds and the quiet, there was a perfect moment to put my thoughts on paper for the special people in my life.”
Writing at 30,000 Feet ✉️☁️
I wrote a postcard at 30,000 feet today. And I was among the first to do so.
Writing has always evoked emotions that no blue tick ever could. In a world of instant replies and endless notifications, handwritten letters and postcards feel real.
