The Nameri Tiger Reserve in Assam has received global recognition for conservation of big cats and protected forest management, an official said on Thursday.

After fulfilling prescribed norms for tiger conservation and protected area management, CA|TS Approved status was accorded under the Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards (CA|TS) framework, field director Piraisoodan B said in a statement.

“The status was accorded to Nameri on September 10, following the required assessment and approval by the CA|TS International Executive Committee,” he said.

CA|TS is a globally recognised framework that assesses tiger reserve management, including wildlife protection, habitat management, monitoring, administration and community participation.

With Nameri’s approval, all four tiger reserves in Assam – Kaziranga, Manas, Orang and Nameri – now have CA|TS Approved status.

Nameri National Park and Tiger Reserve is located in the northern part of Sonitpur district, with a total area of 464 sq km, which includes a core area of 200 sq km.
