West Bengal bypolls | Tamil Nadu bypolls | Puducherry bypolls

Bypoll results for five assembly seats, Nagaon Lok Sabha seat to be declared today

The results of by-elections to five Assembly constituencies across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, along with the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam, will be declared on Friday following the counting of votes.

In West Bengal, bypolls were held in the Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly constituencies. The Nandigram seat fell vacant after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari won from two constituencies in the state Assembly elections earlier this year and chose to retain the other seat.

The Rejinagar seat became vacant following the resignation of Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) founder Humayun Kabir, who had also won from Nowda.

In Tamil Nadu, bypolls were held in the Madurantakam (SC) constituency in Chengalpattu district and Dharapuram (SC) in Tiruppur district. The two seats fell vacant following the resignations of Maragatham Kumaravel and P. Sathyabama.

In the Union Territory of Puducherry, polling was held in the Thattanchavady Assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam witnessed a three-way contest among the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

The Nagaon seat, which was won by the Congress in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, fell vacant after Pradyut Bordoloi left the party and joined the BJP. He subsequently won the Dispur Assembly constituency in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan expressed confidence that the bypoll results in Dharapuram and Madurantakam would reflect public approval of the state government’s performance.

Expressing confidence in the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) victory, he said the party would win by a margin that would surprise people.

“The results of the Dharapuram and Maduranthakam by-elections will stand as a testament and proof to the people of the good governance being delivered by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on behalf of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. It is certain that we will win by a massive margin of votes unprecedented in the history of Tamil Nadu politics. The margin will be such that it will amaze the people. This by-election will be a historic event that recognises the achievements of the Chief Minister,” he said.
