Cyclone Arnab continues to affect Nepal

Cyclone Arnab continues to affect Nepal, with rainfall reported in several parts of the country, including Kathmandu and other areas of Bagmati Province. Snowfall is also forecast in high-altitude regions.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, moderate rain and snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, are expected in several parts of the country today and tomorrow. Heavy to very heavy precipitation is possible at some locations in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

The Roshi weather station in Kavrepalanchok recorded 50.2 millimetres of rainfall in the 24 hours up to Friday morning.

The department has warned of heavy snowfall and snowstorms in high Himalayan areas. Tourists and trekkers have been advised to avoid high-altitude journeys and remain in safe locations until conditions improve.

The adverse conditions may disrupt road and air transport, agriculture and daily life.

The effects of Cyclone Arnab and associated rainfall are expected to ease from Saturday afternoon, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said.

The India Meteorological Department reported that Cyclone Arnab weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over central Chhattisgarh and adjoining Odisha on October 29, and is expected to weaken further.
