Additionally, EAM Jaishankar held wide-ranging discussions with Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, focusing on expanding cooperation in trade, investments, development assistance, pharmaceuticals, defense, technology, and people-to-people ties.
EAM Jaishankar delivered a keynote address at the Foreign Service Institute of Ghana, focusing on India, Africa, and the Global South. During his address, he highlighted the imperative of supply chain resilience across fuel, food, fertilizer, and finance, emphasized the Global South’s right to industrialize, and noted that India’s foreign policy outlook is driven by strategic autonomy so that partnerships expand options rather than restrict them. He also highlighted India’s accessible digital ecosystem and its readiness to share experiences with African partners to democratize opportunities and empower youthful populations.
To advance South-South cooperation, India and Ghana exchanged two key MoUs in the presence of EAM Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Ablakwa. This included an agreement between the Zoological Survey of India and the University of Ghana for cooperation in academics, scientific research, and capacity building, alongside an agreement between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Ghana’s CSIR-Crops Research Institute for collaboration in agricultural research and education.
EAM Jaishankar also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India in Accra, praising their contributions in cementing the special bonds between the two nations.
“Delighted to interact with members of Indian community and friends of India in Accra. Spoke about how India is seen as a friend and a reliable & effective partner in Ghana. Also appreciated the contributions of the community in deepening our special bonds with a valued partner.” Jaishankar posted on X:
Following his engagements in Ghana, EAM Jaishankar is scheduled to visit Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia as part of his five-day official visit. During this broader tour, he will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts and regional leadership to review ties across trade, economic relations, development cooperation, and capacity building. In Addis Ababa, Jaishankar will also chair the Regional Heads of Mission Conference, further reflecting India’s ongoing commitment to deepening its partnership with Africa and reinforcing its solidarity with the Global South.
