A 17-member Indian Coast Guard mountaineering team successfully scaled the 7,045-metre Mount Mukut on October 7, completing the final phase of an 18-month training programme for a planned Mount Everest expedition in 2027.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged in the team at a ceremony in Dehradun on Monday, October 12.
Conducted under the guidance of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling, the expedition began on September 15. The team established Base Camp-I on October 1 before overcoming extreme weather conditions to reach the summit.
The climb marked Phase V of the preparatory programme for the Everest expedition, planned during the Coast Guard’s Swarnim Jayanti celebrations in 2027. The experience and lessons gained on Mount Mukut will support the team’s final preparations.
Dhami praised the mountaineers’ grit and endurance, describing their achievement as an example of courage and national pride.
Additional Director General of the Indian Coast Guard Anand Prakash Badola also congratulated the team for its teamwork in navigating the challenging Himalayan terrain.
