The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron departed Port Victoria, Seychelles, on October 15 after a three-day port call featuring professional training, joint maritime exercises and community outreach.
The visiting ships – INS Tir, INS Sujata and Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarathi – arrived on October 12 as part of an ongoing training deployment.
During the visit, the squadron’s senior officer and the ships’ commanding officers met Major General Michael Rosette, Chief of Defence Forces of the Seychelles Defence Force. Discussions focused on the longstanding partnership and bilateral cooperation between the two forces.
The programme included professional engagements, cross-training visits, and firefighting and small-arms training for Seychelles Defence Force personnel.
The squadron also conducted a Passage Exercise, or PASSEX, with Seychelles Coast Guard Ship Andromache. Activities included joint patrolling, communication drills and coordinated manoeuvres.
Community outreach included a medical camp, distribution of essential supplies at the Point La Rue elderly home, a visit by schoolchildren and a performance by the Indian Navy Band.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the deployment reinforced India–Seychelles friendship through capacity building and regional cooperation, in line with the vision of MAHASAGAR—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
