INS Tarkash arrives at Mombasa, Kenya for goodwill port call

Indian Naval Ship Tarkash, a frontline stealth frigate, arrived at Mombasa, Kenya, on September 29 for a goodwill port call as part of her deployment. The visit underscores the longstanding and multifaceted relationship between India and Kenya, two maritime nations connected by historical, cultural and people-to-people ties.

India and Kenya share a long history of maritime engagement across the Indian Ocean. As key maritime nations, both countries remain committed to fostering maritime ties and enhancing trust, understanding and interoperability between their Navies, the Ministry of Defence said in a press release.

During the port call, personnel of the Indian and Kenyan Navies will participate in a range of professional and social engagements, including interactions, cross-learning and cultural exchanges. These activities will provide opportunities for both sides to share experiences and enhance interoperability, it said.

Community outreach activities will also be undertaken, providing naval personnel from both countries an opportunity to engage beyond the professional domain. Sports and community service activities will further foster camaraderie and cultural understanding, the ministry said.

The port call reflects India’s commitment to strengthening maritime partnerships with friendly countries in the Indian Ocean Region and is in keeping with the spirit of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
