MoRTH to Organise Transport Mela in Delhi to Promote Scrapping and Replacement of Old Trucks, Buses

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will organise a Transport Mela in Burari, North Delhi, on October 28 under the PARIVARTAN Scheme to promote the scrapping of old trucks and buses and their replacement with cleaner vehicles. The mela, being organised in collaboration with the Delhi government, will provide guidance on vehicle scrapping, financing options and incentives available under the scheme. About 40,000 beneficiaries have registered on the PARIVARTAN portal so far.

Assistance for Vehicle Scrapping and Replacement

Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), vehicle dealers, Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs), banks and Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities associated with the scheme will participate in the mela, according to a press release by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

They will provide information and guidance to beneficiaries on the vehicle scrapping process, financing options, replacement vehicles, fuel-related benefits and applicable incentives under the PARIVARTAN Scheme.

Incentives Under PARIVARTAN Scheme

The PARIVARTAN Scheme seeks to encourage the replacement of old trucks and buses in Delhi-NCR with cleaner vehicles. The incentives available under the scheme include a minimum 8% discount from the original equipment manufacturer’s discount, 5% interest subvention on vehicle loans, 100% road tax concession for 10 years, one-time benefits for electric vehicles, monthly fuel vouchers and waiver of registration fees, as applicable.

The Transport Mela will provide a platform for beneficiaries to understand the scheme’s provisions and access information from participating stakeholders to facilitate the scrapping and replacement of old vehicles.
