Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit Bangkok, Thailand, from October 14 to 18 to participate in the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, along with meetings of G20 and G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors.
During the five-day visit, the Finance Minister will take part in multilateral discussions on key global economic and financial issues, including the global economic outlook, financial sector developments, development priorities and international financial cooperation.
Sitharaman is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, as well as the Finance Ministers of Switzerland, Japan, Luxembourg, Bhutan and Curaçao. She will meet IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and the Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.
The visit will also feature engagements with global policymakers, financial institutions and other stakeholders. These include a fireside chat hosted by the Atlantic Council on India’s growth outlook, trade resilience, reform of the international financial architecture, India-ASEAN relations and the roadmap towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
The Finance Minister will also participate in a German-hosted side event on making cities investable by mobilising private capital for urban and water infrastructure.
The engagements are expected to provide a platform for India to present its economic performance, reform priorities and investment opportunities, while exchanging views with international partners on emerging economic challenges.
