Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is on an official visit to Singapore from October 9 to 11 to strengthen bilateral economic ties and explore investment opportunities with Singaporean and international investors.
During the visit, the Finance Minister will hold high-level meetings with Singapore’s political leadership, senior business executives and global institutional investors.
Sitharaman is scheduled to call on Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
The discussions will focus on key areas of the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and follow up on the outcomes of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR).
Key areas of cooperation include trade and investment, digital financial connectivity, capital markets, taxation, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, skill development and aviation.
As part of her engagements with the investment community, the Finance Minister will participate in a roundtable with hedge fund and portfolio fund managers. She will also hold a series of Government-to-Business meetings with investors, financial institutions and business leaders to discuss India’s growth prospects, investment opportunities and developments in the global economic and financial landscape.
Sitharaman will also hold one-to-one meetings with senior executives of leading global financial institutions, investment firms and healthcare companies. These include representatives of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC), Temasek Holdings, DBS Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, British International Investment and IHH Healthcare.
Other engagements will include representatives of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, B Capital, HPS Investment Partners, Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, Mitsui & Co. and TPG.
Singapore remains India’s largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI), with cumulative inflows of approximately 194.68 billion US dollars between April 2000 and March 2026. Singaporean institutional investors, including GIC and Temasek, have substantial investments across the Indian economy.
The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and GIFT City are among the platforms that could facilitate greater participation by Singaporean investors in India through investment vehicles and funds.
The Ministry of Finance, in coordination with relevant ministries and industry bodies, will facilitate connections between interested Singaporean investors and Indian companies, financial institutions and state governments. The initiative aims to help advance identified investment opportunities.
