Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to Maharishi Valmiki ahead of the sage’s birth anniversary on October 26, highlighting the enduring relevance of the Ramayan and its teachings on service, compassion, perseverance and social harmony.
Speaking during the 139th episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the Prime Minister said the ancient epic continued to offer valuable lessons and fresh perspectives even thousands of years after its composition.
Referring to the values conveyed through the Ramayan, PM Modi said Maharishi Valmiki emphasised both persistent effort and the importance of serving others, showing compassion and fostering harmony in society.
The Prime Minister cited the examples of Bhagwan Ram’s acceptance of Mata Shabari’s devotion and his friendship with Nishadraj to illustrate the ideals of respect, inclusiveness and social unity. He said these principles remained relevant and continued to guide people even today.
PM Modi also referred to the temples dedicated to Maharishi Valmiki, Nishadraj and Mata Shabari within the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya, saying they reflected the values of service and social harmony associated with India’s cultural traditions.
He expressed satisfaction over the naming of Ayodhya’s airport after Maharishi Valmiki, describing such initiatives as a way of enriching the country’s cultural heritage and keeping the sage’s legacy alive.
Towards the conclusion of the programme, the Prime Minister extended greetings to people ahead of the upcoming festive season, including Diwali and Chhath. He encouraged families to celebrate together, remain mindful of health and safety, and share their festive happiness with others.
