President Droupadi Murmu attended Dussehra celebrations at the Dwarka Shri Ram Leela on Tuesday, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in Vijayadashami celebrations at the Indraprastha Ramleela Ground.

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal attended the Luv Kush Ram Leela celebrations at the Ramlila Maidan near the Red Fort.

President Murmu attended the celebrations at Dwarka along with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Cabinet Minister Parvesh Verma, where she set Ravana’s effigy ablaze.

Addressing the gathering, CM Gupta said Dussehra was a day of joy for Delhi and symbolised not just Lord Ram’s victory over Ravan but also the triumph of good over evil.

“Ravan continues to exist in society in the form of darkness, arrogance, anger, violence against women and corruption,” she said.

President Murmu performed the traditional aarti of Lord Ram, Lakshman and Sita before releasing an arrow to set Ravan’s effigy ablaze.

Wishing people on Dussehra, the President called on people to imbibe Lord Ram’s qualities, saying his story inspired them to respect nature, protect the environment and care for everyone.

The Dwarka Shri Ram Leela featured 90-foot effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath, said Bharat Bhushan Malviya, a core committee member and media head of the event.

The organisers combined traditional festivities with digital initiatives and environmentally conscious measures this year. The performances were streamed live on social media platforms, while an app and digital ticketing were introduced, Malviya said.

The organisers also planned to use green crackers during the celebrations, he added.
