Two months ahead of elections to 21 urban local bodies in Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday said the state government is preparing a master plan to modernise municipal bodies and upgrade civic infrastructure across the state.
Saha made the remarks while inaugurating a newly constructed two-storey ward office in Pratapgarh under the Agartala Municipal Corporation. He said that alongside the implementation of the Smart City Mission in Agartala, the government has prepared a master plan to develop modern infrastructure in all Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council areas.
The ward office was constructed at a cost of Rs 97.43 lakh.
Saha said the government’s objective was to ensure that all sections of society benefit from development and improved civic services.
“That is why the government, rising above politics, is implementing various development programmes and delivering services to the doorsteps of the people,” he said.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of taking government facilities and development to the last person in society, Saha said the state government was working to ensure that various services reached people across Tripura.
The chief minister said Agartala had witnessed significant development in recent years, particularly in civic infrastructure. He said projects had focused on providing safe drinking water, constructing and repairing roads, improving drainage, providing pucca houses, creating alternative employment opportunities and expanding healthcare services.
Saha said development would reach citizens irrespective of their political affiliation and highlighted several projects implemented in Agartala.
Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, safe drinking water projects worth Rs 112 crore have been implemented, while 48 flats have been constructed for economically weaker sections and work on two more flats is underway.
“So far, 16,000 families have been provided with safe drinking water under the AMRUT 2.0 project,” Saha said.
“A number of other programmes will be implemented under AMRUT 3.0. Sixty-five projects have been implemented across Agartala city under the Smart City Mission at a cost of Rs 581 crore,” he said.
Saha said the government was implementing various schemes focused on infrastructure development and the beautification of Agartala, while also strengthening civic facilities in the municipal corporation area.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, South Zone Chairman Abhijit Mallick and AMC Commissioner Saju Wahid were also present.
