Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan today paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary. He also paid homage to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Kamaraj on his death anniversary.
At Raj Ghat, the Vice-President paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and recalled his enduring legacy of truth, non-violence, justice and respect for human dignity.
Radhakrishnan said Mahatma Gandhi’s life and message continue to inspire humanity with the values of peace, compassion, selflessness and service. He called upon people to reaffirm their commitment to Gandhian values and work towards building a just, harmonious and inclusive society.
At Vijay Ghat, the Vice-President paid floral tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri and described him as a leader of quiet strength and extraordinary resolve.
He said Shastri exemplified humility, integrity and unwavering commitment to the nation. Recalling his leadership during a defining period in India’s journey, Radhakrishnan said his call of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” gave enduring recognition to the sacrifices of soldiers and the contribution of farmers.
The Vice-President said Shastri’s life remains a reminder that true leadership is rooted in simplicity, courage and service to the nation.
At the Vice-President’s residence, Shri Radhakrishnan also paid tributes to K. Kamaraj on his death anniversary and recalled his contribution to public life and nation-building.
Describing Kamaraj as a towering statesman and a people’s leader, he said Kamaraj devoted his life to the service of the nation and the welfare of the common people.
The Vice-President highlighted Kamaraj’s contribution to Tamil Nadu’s development, particularly in expanding roads and educational institutions and introducing the midday meal programme. He also recalled his role in promoting irrigation and industrial development through the construction of dams and establishment of industrial estates.
Radhakrishnan said these initiatives laid important foundations for the growth of agriculture and industry in Tamil Nadu.
