Vice-President Inaugurates Navaratri Sargotsavam in Kozhikode, Stresses Cultural Heritage and Development

Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday inaugurated Navaratri Sargotsavam 2026 in Kozhikode, Keralam, and underscored the importance of preserving India’s rich cultural heritage while advancing its developmental aspirations.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President said Navaratri celebrates the divine feminine power of Adi Parashakti, the eternal source of creation, strength, wisdom and compassion. He said the festival conveys the timeless message that courage must overcome fear, righteousness must prevail over injustice, and knowledge must dispel ignorance.

Highlighting India’s diverse Navaratri traditions, Radhakrishnan said the country remains united by its shared civilisational heritage despite differences in languages, traditions and forms of worship. He said this spirit reflects the essence of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”.

Emphasising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi”, the Vice-President said India’s cultural heritage and developmental aspirations complement each other. Comparing the nation to a banyan tree, he observed that just as a tree draws strength from its deep roots while spreading its branches, India’s traditions and values provide stability, identity and continuity as the country embraces modernity and progress.

The Vice-President congratulated Kesari Weekly on organising the festival and commended its contribution to Malayalam journalism, democratic values and freedom of expression.

On the occasion, he released the book Sangha Noottandile Akshara Mudrakal and presented the Sarga Kesari Award to P. R. Rajendran in recognition of his contribution to the fine arts.

Radhakrishnan expressed hope that Navaratri Sargotsavam would inspire young people, encourage artists and strengthen efforts to preserve India’s cultural heritage while embracing innovation. Praying for the blessings of the Goddesses, he expressed hope that society would find the strength to fight injustice, share prosperity with the underprivileged and use knowledge to build a compassionate society that cares for all.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar; Rajya Sabha MP C. Sadanandan Master; Navaratri Sargotsavam Samiti President Vidhu-bala; Working President A. K. Prasanth; and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
