DRDO successfully flight-tests Pralay missile off Odisha coast

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Thursday successfully flight-tested the indigenously developed quasi-ballistic missile Pralay from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast as part of user evaluation trials.

The test, conducted at around 11.10 am, met all its objectives, according to data captured by range instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur.

The missile has been developed by Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories. Bharat Dynamics Limited, one of the development-cum-production partners, produced the system.

Senior DRDO officials, industry representatives and personnel from the defence forces witnessed the test. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the successful trial had brought the system closer to induction.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the defence forces and industry partners, saying the missile’s advanced technologies would enhance the military’s technological capabilities and operational preparedness against emerging threats.

“This successful trial marks another significant milestone in strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities,” Singh said in a post on X. He added that data from the range instruments had validated the achievement of all stipulated test objectives.

Rajesh Kumar Singh, Defence Secretary and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, also congratulated the teams associated with the successful flight-test.
