Fresh snowfall blankets Badrinath, temperatures drop sharply in Uttarakhand

Fresh snowfall in Badrinath Dham has covered the surrounding high-altitude peaks in a blanket of snow, while a sharp drop in temperatures and chilly winds have intensified cold conditions in the region.

The snowfall, recorded overnight, brought a noticeable change in weather conditions across Badrinath and adjoining mountainous areas, leaving the peaks surrounding the shrine covered in snow.

Despite the freezing conditions, devotees visiting Badrinath Dham were seen enjoying views of the snow-covered mountains. However, falling temperatures and cold winds have made conditions increasingly harsh for residents and pilgrims.

Meanwhile, Kedarnath Dham witnessed the season’s first heavy snowfall on Thursday, following continuous snowfall since October 29. The snowfall covered the surrounding hills in a thick layer of snow and led to a significant decline in temperatures.

The changing weather conditions have also affected several other parts of Uttarakhand, particularly the state’s hilly districts, where rainfall activity is expected to continue over the next few days.

Director of the Meteorological Centre, Dehradun, C.S. Tomar said light to moderate rainfall was likely at several places, while isolated showers could continue in the northern hill districts.

“Yesterday on the 29th… according to the report we received this morning, heavy rainfall was also recorded at 8 to 9 places across the state, especially in the districts of Uttarkashi, Tehri, and Haridwar. So, mostly light to moderate rainfall was observed at many locations yesterday,” Tomar told ANI.

He said similar weather conditions were expected to persist, with a higher likelihood of rainfall activity in the Kumaon region.

“We are expecting similar conditions today as well. Particularly in the Kumaon region, there are higher chances of weather activity today, so light to moderate rain is likely to occur at several places there,” he added.

According to Tomar, rainfall activity is expected to gradually decrease, although light precipitation may continue at isolated locations, particularly in the northern hilly districts, on October 31, November 1 and November 2.

The fresh snowfall in Badrinath and Kedarnath, along with continued rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand, has brought colder weather conditions to the state’s higher-altitude regions.
