India and Canada held their inaugural Defence Dialogue virtually on November 3, identifying defence industrial cooperation, military-technical engagement and research and development as priority areas for collaboration.
The meeting was co-chaired by Amit Telang, Joint Secretary for International Cooperation in India’s Ministry of Defence, and Scott Millar, Assistant Deputy Minister for Policy in Canada’s Department of National Defence.
The two sides exchanged views on their defence policies and strategic outlooks and explored opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation, according to a Defence Ministry release issued on Wednesday.
Defence industrial cooperation emerged as an important area of engagement, alongside military-technical cooperation and defence research and development.
The dialogue reaffirmed the leadership-level commitment to expanding defence and strategic ties, reflected in the joint statement issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on March 2, 2026.
Both sides discussed specific deliverables to strengthen the partnership and exchanged perspectives on regional and global issues.
They agreed to remain in contact to advance the discussions and proposals for closer defence cooperation.
