PM Modi to launch Pune Metro projects worth Rs 21,800 crore on November 3

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Pune Metro’s Line 3, also known as the Pink Line, and lay the foundation stone for Phase-II projects worth a combined Rs 21,800 crore on Tuesday through video conferencing.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi will also address the gathering at the event, which is scheduled to begin at 12.30 pm.

Built at a cost of over Rs 8,300 crore, the approximately 23-km Pink Line connects Maan to District Court Metro station, providing connectivity between the Hinjewadi IT hub and Shivajinagar.

The corridor will link with the existing Metro network, improving access to major employment, commercial and residential areas. It is expected to ease daily travel for thousands of IT professionals and other commuters while reducing dependence on private vehicles, traffic congestion and vehicular emissions.

The Pink Line will be operated entirely by women train operators. Around 30 per cent of its electricity requirements are envisaged to be met through solar power.

PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase-II, estimated to cost around Rs 13,500 crore. Comprising Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A, the expansion will connect key residential, commercial and IT hubs.

Lines 2A and 2B will together cover approximately 12.75 km. Line 2A will connect Vanaz to Chandani Chowk, while Line 2B will extend from Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi.

Line 4 will span around 25.52 km between Kharadi and Khadakwasla, while the 6.12-km Line 4A will connect Nal Stop to Manik Baug.

The new corridors will serve locations including Kharadi, Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Swargate, Manik Baug, Nanded City, Pune Cantonment and Warje. The Ramwadi–Vitthalwadi extension will improve access to growing residential, commercial and IT areas in Kharadi and Wagholi.

Interchange facilities at Swargate, Nal Stop and Kharadi Bypass will integrate the new corridors with the existing Pune Metro network and intercity bus services.

The projects are intended to expand Pune’s public transport capacity and provide commuters with a more connected urban transport network.
