G20 India welcomes Nigerian President as delegations begin to arrive for the grand summit

On September 5th, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in New Delhi to participate in the grand G20 Summit hosted by India. President Tinubu is the first head of delegation to arrive for the summit, marking his first visit to India since his assumption of office.

President Tinubu joins a prestigious list of high-profile dignitaries scheduled to attend the summit. The president received a warm welcome by Indian officials at the airport upon his arrival, which is his first visit to the country after assuming office in May 2023.

The upcoming G20 Summit, scheduled for September 9th to 10th, will witness leaders from the group of 20 major economies of the world discussing and finding solutions to several pressing global issues, including digital transformation and climate financing, among others.

To ensure the safety and security of this high-profile event, New Delhi has been transformed into a fortress. According to the officials, the city will be guarded by nearly 130,000 security personnel, including the 80,000-strong Delhi Police.  

US President Joe Biden will travel to India on September 7 to attend the G20 Summit. In addition, he will also hold bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the White House has announced.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, on his maiden official visit to India since assuming office, is also set to attend the summit. Representing China, Li Qiang, the Premier of the State Council, will lead the Chinese delegation at the G20 Summit.

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, a great friend and ally of India, has confirmed his attendance at the forthcoming G20 Summit. Furthermore, the summit will be graced by the presence of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Distinguished leaders such as Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, and Argentina’s President Alberto Fernandez will also be present among other leaders.

The Group of G20 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico,Türkiye, and European Union.
