Rallies in support of Palestinians take place in many parts of the world

In many parts of the world, demonstrations are being held in support of Palestine.

South African protester were chanting “Free Palestine” during demonstrations that took place in South Africa’s Johannesburg and Cape Town cities on October 11. This follows an incursion by Palestinian militant group Hamas that left scores of people killed on October 7, prompting Israel to retaliate with unrelenting airstrikes on Gaza.

In Johannesburg, outside the United States of America Consulate, dozens of people, staged a protest to denounce Israel for what they called ‘oppression of Palestinians’. During the protest, a scuffle broke out when one Israeli-supporter staged a counter demonstration.

In Cape town, dozens of protestors gathered outside the South African Jewish Museum, holding placards and calling for the freedom of Palestine.

Demonstrators in Toronto rallied on October 9 in support of Palestinians and marched toward the Israeli consulate, following the weekend’s multi-pronged attack on Israel by Hamas.

Chanting slogans such as “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”, the protesters gathered in front of the City Hall. The crowd included some counter-protesters waving Israel’s flag.

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in Barcelona, Spain, on October 11 after an incursion by Palestinian militant group Hamas over the weekend killed hundreds of people, prompting Israel to retaliate with unrelenting airstrikes on Gaza.

About 200 people gathered with Palestinian flags and banners reading “It’s not a conflict, it’s a genocide” or “Stand with Palestine” outside European Union facilities.

Police briefly detained several pro-Palestinian protesters in Berlin’s Kreuzberg-Neukoelln districts on Wednesday (October 11) after planned demonstrations were banned by authorities the evening before.

A planned march with 250 registered participants as well as other demonstrations was prohibited after police raised concerns there could be an antisemitic tone.

Rallies took place in the capitals of South Korea and Japan on October 11 after an incursion by Palestinian militant group Hamas at the weekend killed scores of people, prompting Israel to retaliate with unrelenting airstrikes on Gaza.

In South Korea’s capital, Seoul outside the Israeli embassy, hundreds of people, mostly of Middle Eastern origin, staged a rally to denounce Israel for what they called oppression of Palestinians.

Some demonstrators gathered on a street corner near the Israeli embassy in Japan to call for an end to Israel’s bombing of Gaza. Many of them carried placards written in English and Japanese, calling for peace and an end to the violence.

Gaza’s health ministry said at least 900 people have been killed and 4,600 wounded in the crowded coastal enclave. Israel’s military said the death toll in Israel had reached 1,200 and more than 2,700 people had been wounded.
