Tele-Law 2.0: DoJ initiative for common citizen to access legal advice

Department of Justice (DoJ) will celebrate Tele-Law 2.0 event on 25th August, 2023 at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. This is being celebrated with commitment to fulfill the Constitutional mandate of Article 39 A to ensure access to justice. Tele-Law model facilitates legal advice through expert panel of lawyers placed at CSCs and legal services authorities.

Law and Justice Minister (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal will attend the event. The event is seminal as it commemorates the reaching of 50 Lakh milestone, that earmarks rendering of pre-litigation advice to the common citizens through the use of technology.

Department of Justice partnered with NALSA and CSC e-Governance Service India Limited for mainstreaming legal aid to the marginalised communities through Common Services Center (CSC) to bring the Tele-Law programme. Tele-Law programme was launched by the Ministry of Law and Justice in 2017 to address cases at pre–litigation stage.

Tele-Law means the use of communications and information technology for the delivery of legal information and advice. This an e-interaction between lawyers and people through the video-conferencing infrastructure available at the CSCs. The concept of Tele-Law is to facilitate delivery of legal advice through a panel of lawyers stationed at the front office of Legal Services Authorities and CSC. It is a service that uses video conferencing facilities and telephone services to connect lawyers to litigants who need legal advice

This event integrates legal advice service under Tele-Law with legal representation services under Nyaya Bandhu (Pro Bono) programme. This would enable the common citizen to access legal advice, legal assistance and legal representation through a single registration and single gateway of Tele-Law. The Event will also witness the felicitation of the frontline functionaries who are the grassroot soldiers and ensures delivery of legal services at its doorstep.

There will be show case of “Tele-Law” film that depicts the Five-Year’s (2017-2022) journey on Tele-Law along with launch of “Tele-Law-2.0” that Integrated Tele-Law and Nyaya Bandhu App” & release of its e-tutorial. This event will also release “Voices of Beneficiaries” that re-count the experiences of the beneficiaries in availing tele-Law service.

The event is being organized by Department of Justice and is supported by CSC e- Governance Services India Limited. The event exemplifies the Government’s vision to strengthen the legal aid eco-system and to ensure “Justice for All”.
