In a significant milestone for diplomatic relations between India and the Dominican Republic, Vice President Raquel Peña Rodríguez arrived in India today on a three-day official visit. This visit, at the invitation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, marks the first-ever trip by a Vice President of the Dominican Republic to India and comes as the two nations celebrate 25 years of bilateral relations since establishing diplomatic ties on May 4, 1999.

During her stay, Vice President Rodríguez is scheduled to hold a series of high-level meetings and engagements. She will call on the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, to strengthen diplomatic ties and discuss avenues for cooperation between the two nations.

One of the key highlights of her visit will be discussions with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and other prominent Indian dignitaries. These discussions are expected to cover a wide range of topics, including trade, investment, cultural exchange, and collaborative efforts to address global challenges.

Vice President Rodríguez will also share her insights on India-Dominican Republic relations during a lecture at the Indian Council for World Affairs, shedding light on the historical significance and the future potential of this bilateral partnership.

This visit follows closely on the heels of India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar’s trip to the Dominican Republic in April 2023, underscoring the mutual commitment to deepening and broadening the relationship between the two nations.

The Dominican Republic holds a special place as a crucial partner for India in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Vice President Raquel Peña Rodríguez’s visit signifies yet another opportunity for both nations to foster high-level discussions and explore avenues for further cooperation, ensuring that their diplomatic relations continue to thrive in the years ahead.

As Vice President Rodríguez embarks on this historic visit, it symbolizes the growing bonds between India and the Dominican Republic and sets the stage for an even brighter future of cooperation and friendship between the two nations.
