Indian Community in UAE commemorates Independence Day with focus on India’s 2047 goals

The Indian community residing in the UAE celebrated India’s 77th Independence Day with fervor and enthusiasm. The celebrations were observed at multiple venues across the country, including the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi, the Consulate General of India in Dubai, and Indian community centers in Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al-Khaimah.

In Abu Dhabi, Ambassador Sunjay Sudhir raised the Indian flag at the Embassy and emphasized the values of democracy, freedom, and peace in his address. He also recognized the Indian community’s contributions to the development of the UAE. “76 years ago, we broke free from colonial rule and exploitation. Our forefathers’ determination and sacrifices paved the way for today’s India. We carry their flame of independence forward,” Ambassador expressed.

He called upon the Indian community to pledge their commitment to India’s development by 2047, outlining commitments that encompass achieving self-reliance, shedding remnants of the colonial mindset, celebrating heritage, strengthening unity, respecting defenders of the nation, and fulfilling citizens’ duties.

In Dubai, the Acting Consul General of India, Ram Kumar Thangaraj, led the celebrations at the Consulate, which featured a flag-hoisting ceremony and cultural performances. A significant highlight was the traditional Kalaripayattu martial arts demonstration by the Kalari Club Dubai, aiming to establish a world record.

Besides, the flag-hoisting and speeches, cultural performances took center stage. Dancers from Philadelphia presented traditional Bharata Natyam dance, concluding their act with a rendition of “Vande Mataram.”

The Indian community in the UAE, constituting the largest expatriate group, plays a significant role in the country. With over 3.5 million Indians, they form a substantial portion of the UAE’s population and contribute across various sectors, including business, education, and healthcare.
The 77th Indian Independence Day celebrations brought together the Indian community in the UAE, allowing them to honor their shared heritage. These festivities highlighted the essence of freedom and democracy while showcasing the community’s dedication to India’s progress.
