Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. He said that censuses and delimitations will make the Women’s Reservation Bill more effective. After the census and delimitation, women in the SC-ST category will be able to get their proper benefits. Therefore, census and delimitation are the need of the hour and are also constitutional.
Meghwal said that the process of census and delimitation will be started only after the bill is passed. Our government is also ready to take immediate action on this bill as per the standards. We want the mothers, sisters, and daughters of the country to get their rights. Many welfare schemes are being run by the Central Government. Our mothers, sisters, and daughters are getting its direct benefits. Our government is continuously working in the interest of women.
Congress MP Ranjita Ranjan voiced her support for the bill during the Rajya Sabha discussion while raising objections to its name. She contended that the name “Nari Shakti Vandan Act” was inaccurate, as it implies women are seeking mercy. She emphasized that women do not require pity; instead, their rights should be acknowledged as a constitutional entitlement. Ranjan advocated for the immediate implementation of the bill, bypassing the need for delimitation and a census.
Expressing happiness over the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in the Lok Sabha, Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani said that today history has been created and decades of struggle have been completed by Prime Minister Modi.
Smriti Irani said that what could be a better way for any MP to start his parliamentary innings than passing the bill for which crores of women were waiting.
