In a significant move towards a sustainable and environmentally responsible future, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside world leaders from Singapore, Bangladesh, Italy, the USA, Brazil, Argentina, Mauritius, and the UAE, launched the Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) on September 9, 2023, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

The Global Biofuel Alliance is an initiative by India as the G20 Chair. It represents a monumental step towards expediting the worldwide adoption of biofuels. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged G20 nations to join the initiative with a plea to take blending of ethanol with petrol to 20% globally.

“The launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance marks a watershed moment in our quest towards sustainability and clean energy. I thank the member nations who have joined this alliance,” the Prime Minister said. “Today, the need of the hour is that all countries should work together in the field of fuel blending. Our proposal is to take an initiative at a global level to take ethanol blending in petrol up to 20%,” PM Modi said.

“The alliance will also act as a central repository of knowledge and an expert hub. GBA aims to serve as a catalytic platform, fostering global collaboration for the advancement and widespread adoption of biofuels,” said the Ministry of External Affairs.

Earlier, at the G20 Summit session on “One Earth,” PM Modi proposed launching the G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation and urged leaders to commence work on the Green Credit Initiative. These visionary proposals align with India’s commitment to addressing climate change and fostering a sustainable, inclusive, and environmentally responsible future for the world.

As the G20 Summit unfolds, India’s leadership shines brightly with initiatives like the Global Biofuel Alliance, marking a significant stride towards a greener and more sustainable planet.
