Good day for India at Asian Games! Men’s Table Tennis team defeats Yemen; Balraj rows into Men’s Single Sculls final

India started the day on a winning note at the 19th Asian Games on September 22. The men’s table tennis team on Friday defeated Yemen 3-0 in the Group events. Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Sharath Kamal and Harmeet Desai won their respective matches to win India’s opening tie against Yemen 3-0.

In Volleyball, on Friday, India plays Chinese Taipei, in a quest to march into the next round. At the time of writing this news, India sealed the first set 25-22 and second set 25-22. Earlier on September 20, the men in blue stunned the higher-ranked opponent, South Korea in a thrilling 3-2 victory.

On September 22, in Rowing – Men’s Single Sculls Semifinals began at 1 pm IST. Meanwhile, India men’s team will go head-to-head against Singapore in Table Tennis at 3:30 pm and the women’s team at 1:30 pm against Singapore.

In Rowing, Balraj Panwar moves into the Final A of Men’s Single Sculls after finishing 3rd in the semi-final Heat 2 with a timing of 7:22:22.

In football, September 21 was a mixed day as the Men’s Team won 1-0 against Bangladesh, while the Women’s Team went down 2-1 after a late goal from Chinese Taipei.

In Cricket, on Thursday, the Indian Women’s cricket team progresses to the Semi-Finals after a rain affected game. We progress as the higher ranked team after putting on a mammoth total of 173 in 15 overs.

India’s Milestones at the Asian Games

— The Indian men’s Kabaddi team has won every Asian Games Gold since 1990 except for the 2018 edition where they were beaten by Iran in the semifinals!

— India finished third at the 1962 Asian Games with 10 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals, taking their tally to 33.
