India’s chase master Virat Kohli and KL Rahul orchestrated a remarkable comeback as the duo stitched a momentous 165-run stand to humble Australia in their opening game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Rahul remained unbeaten on 97 off 115 balls, while Kohli scored a gritty 85 off 116 balls. The senior batters built a record for the highest 4th-wicket partnership in World Cup history, rescuing India after the side had lost three wickets for only two runs in the chase of 200.
Earlier, a combined effort from the Indian bowlers helped the side bowl out Australia for 199 after the hosts had opted to bat first. Ravindra Jadeja scalped three wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah picked up two each.
Final scores: AUS 199 (49.3) | IND 201-4 (41.2)
