Chhatt is popular festival among Tarai people of Nepal. In Tarai region as Janakpurdham, for chhat celebration several ponds and lakes as Gangasagar, Dhanush sagar, Angrajsar, Agni Kund, Gordhoi Pokhari, Nochcha Pokhari, Ratna Sagar, Dashrath lake are decorated with coloured fabrics and lights. Thousands of Devotees are expected to celebrate chhat in these ponds by offering fruits, traditional sweets like Thekua and kasadh to Sun God today evening.
Meanwhile, in Kathmandu Valley, Kamalpokhari and Gauri Ghat on river Bagmati sees hundred of devotees perform chhatt puja for fulfilment of their wishes and blessings for their family.
In the chhat evening, the setting sun is worshipped by offering argha while the same process is followed to worship the rising sunin next morning to bring the festival to an end. Tonight the revelers observe a fast and stay awake all night and offer prayers to the rising sun tomorrow.Sweta Sing
It is believed that observing a fast in obeisance of Chhathi goddess will bring desired results and well-being for the family. the federal government of Nepal has announced a public holiday today to mark the festival.
