Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebrated at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), Dhaka, Bangladesh on Sunday. The High Commission of India in Bangladesh organized a program at IGCC, Dhaka to celebrate Janjatiya Gaurav Divas to remember the contribution of tribal freedom fighters and to pay respect to the rich tribal culture and heritage. Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsha Munda.
The celebration program was followed by the Tribal Dance and Music program. Dance and music are deeply rooted in the tribal hearts and they are part and parcel of any kind of tribal celebrations.
On the occasion, Hojagiri, a folk dance of Reang tribes; Chakma Dance of Chakma tribes of the hill area of Chattogram; Tripra Dance of Tripura tribes and Garo Dance of Garo tribe were performed. Tribal troupes performed their folk dances on the melodious tunes of their respective folk music. The dance performances got huge appreciation from the audience.
Garos, Chakmas, Tripura, Santals, Khasi, Jantiya, hajong etc tribes are common in both the countries, India and Bangladesh; and they are adding colors to the rich diversity of the South Asian Subcontinent.
