The Embassy of India in Saudi Arabia commemorated Veer Yodha Samman Diwas, honoring Armed Forces Veterans in a special event. The celebration coincided with the Punya Tithi of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the eve of Vijay Diwas, signifying the decisive victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in 1971.
The event featured heartfelt messages from Veterans, who reminisced about their experiences in the Forces and shared insights into their lives in Saudi Arabia. Ambassador Dr. Suhel Khan and Defence Attache Col G.S. Grewal released a comprehensive booklet containing guidelines and advisories for the Veterans on this occasion.
In his address, Ambassador Dr. Suhel Khan underscored the significance of the day, paying tribute to Sardar Vallabbhai Patel and acknowledging the victorious history of the Indian Armed Forces. He lauded the commitment, valor, and selfless service of the Armed Forces, recognizing their crucial role in defending borders, combating terrorism, and providing disaster relief. Drawing from personal experiences growing up in a major cantonment area, he also commended the international contributions of the Indian contingent in UN peacekeeping missions.
The event showcased a cultural program presented by schoolchildren and concluded with a reception, fostering a sense of camaraderie among attendees. Veterans, their families, and members of the Indian community graced the occasion, marking the second installment of the Veer Yodha Samman Diwas organized by the Indian Embassy in Riyadh. The inaugural event took place in December 2022. The Embassy expressed its commitment to continuing such initiatives, recognizing the invaluable contributions of Armed Forces Veterans and fostering stronger bonds within the Indian community in Saudi Arabia.
