The Integrated Urban Flood Management activities for Chennai Basin Project has been greenlit with a budget of Rs. 561.29 crore under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF). Meanwhile, the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh grapple with the aftermath of severe cyclonic storm Michaung. The impact has been diverse, causing inundation in many areas and adversely affecting standing crops.
Responding promptly to the crisis, Prime Minister Modi directed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to release the central share of the 2nd installment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). Andhra Pradesh is set to receive Rs. 493.60 crore, while Tamil Nadu will be granted Rs. 450 crore. Notably, the first installment of the same amount had already been released to both states.
