Two protesting students died during a demonstration by Korean Language test candidates at Balkumari, Lalitpur on today afternoon.
The unrest stems from the Korean government’s recent decision, barring those who previously took EPS examinations from applying for new vacancies in the manufacturing sectors, sparking discontent and demonstrations among EPS students at Balkumari, Lalitpur, Nepal.
Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Karki at Lalitpur Police Range said 23-year-old Sujan Raut was pronounced dead upon reaching KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital.
Likewise, Nepal Police Spokesperson Kuber Kadayat said Birendra Shah, who was also injured during the protest, died while undergoing treatment.
Protesters set a vehicle Ba 2 Jha 5861 of Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala on fire, compelling both the Minister and protective service officers to evacuate the vehicle before it was set ablaze.
The Korean Language test candidates were staging demonstrations demanding that they be allowed to appear for language tests for jobs in the manufacturing sector in South Korea.
Those who failed the language proficiency test for shipbuilding jobs took to the streets demanding they be allowed to appear for language tests for the manufacturing sector.
