Very Dense fog conditions were observed this morning over Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh and Eastern Madhya Pradesh, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD said that dense fog was observed in some pockets over Rajasthan, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu, Western Madhya Pradesh and also in isolated pockets over Punjab and Delhi.
In national capital, Delhi, temperature dipped further on Saturday, as cold and fog continues to grip the city. Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, as per IMD, the city will experience ‘dense fog’ today with the minimum temperature dropping to 7°C and the maximum temperature being 18°C. Further, at 5:30 this morning, visibility was recorded at 50 meters in some parts of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Delhi.
Cold continues to shiver people:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cold to severe cold conditions in certain parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan over the next two days, followed by a significant decline in the cold.
Moreover, dense to very dense fog is expected to continue over northwest India during the next two days, gradually decreasing thereafter. An alert has been issued for Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and East Rajasthan from January 5 to 7.
Dense fog conditions are anticipated for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets over east Uttar Pradesh from January 6 to 9; over west Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from January 6 to 8; and over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Odisha on January 6 and 7.
Rainfall Forecast:
The weather agency predicts isolated light rainfall over northwest and central India from January 8 to 10. Additionally, there may be light to moderate rainfall over south peninsular India, with isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during the next 3-4 days.
Between January 5 and 8, Tamil Nadu is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning; Kerala from January 5 to 7; Lakshadweep on January 5, and south coastal Andhra Pradesh on January 7. Furthermore, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over Kerala on January 5 and over Tamil Nadu on January 7.
The IMD also forecasts light rainfall/snowfall at isolated places over the western Himalayan region and light isolated rainfall over the plains of northwest India on January 8 and 9.
Trains running late:

Several trains are running late due to obstructed visibility after dense to very dense fog is being observed in some parts of the country. Northern Railways has said that 14 trains arriving at the National Capital New Delhi are running late between 2 to 6 hours. These trains include Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Exp, Azamgarh-Delhi Kaifiyat Express, Chennai- New Delhi GT, Jammutawi-Ajmer Express, Katihar- Amritsar Express, Mumbai-Nizamuddin August Kranti Rajdhani Express and among other. The Railways also advised people to avoid unnecessary travel.
