The Consulate General of India in Vancouver, the Consulate General of India in New York, and the High Commission of India in Nicosia, Cyprus received the National One District One Product Awards in the ‘Missions’ category. They were honoured for their outstanding support in showcasing the innovative craftsmanship and artistic skills of Indian artisans on a global platform.

The awards were given by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, at a ceremony held in Bharat Pavillion in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The One District One Product (ODOP) Awards, launched through the Rashtriya Puraskar portal by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), aim to honour exceptional achievements within Districts, States/UTs, and International Missions. These awards recognize efforts in promoting economic development through the ODOP approach, spotlighting outstanding contributions.

Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat, several government ministries have initiated various programs, including the One District One Product (ODOP) program led by DPIIT.

The ODOP initiative’s goal is to stimulate socio-economic growth across all districts nationwide. It involves identifying, branding, and promoting a single product from each district to address challenges within their supply chains, enhance market access, and leverage export potential.

With an objective of enhancing the product, bettering the life of the producer and improving the process, the interventions undertaken by the ODOP team encompass the development of all aspects of the district.

This initiative is designed to foster balanced regional development across the country’s districts by spotlighting and boosting at least one product per district, thereby contributing to holistic socioeconomic progress.

Products under the ODOP scheme are selected by states and UTs considering the existing local ecosystem, items identified under Districts Export Hubs (DEH), and those with GI tags. The finalized list is communicated to DPIIT by the respective State/UT departments. All activities, such as exhibitions and capacity building, occur at the state/UT and district levels in consultation and collaboration with the respective authorities.

The ODOP programme stands as a beacon for economic empowerment, emphasising the significance of local products in driving sustainable growth and development nationwide.
