Indian speedster Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc, bowling out South Africa for a mere 55 runs in just 23.2 overs, on Day 1 of the second Test’s first session.
Siraj dismantled the South African batting lineup, concluding with outstanding figures of 9-3-15-6.
After winning the toss, South Africa’s stand-in skipper Dean Elgar opted to bat first. What followed was a forgettable two-hour session for the rainbow nation, as only two batters managed to reach double figures.
India’s stunning effort with the ball in Cape Town led to South Africa recording their lowest-ever Test total against India. The previous record was held by Hashim Amla’s team, dismissed for a paltry 79 runs in Nagpur back in 2019, where Ravichandran Ashwin took 5 wickets in the first innings.
Apart from Siraj’s six-wicket haul, Jasprit Bumrah bagged 2 wickets, while Mukesh Kumar ended with figures of 2.2-2-0-2.
