IAF to showcase strength in mega exercise Vayu Shakti 2024

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to demonstrate its air fighting and operational capabilities during the mega exercise Vayu Shakti 2024, scheduled to take place at the Pokharan Range in Jaisalmer on Feb 17.

Air Marshal A P Singh, while briefing the media in New Delhi, said that Vayu Shakti 2024 will focus on interoperability and maneuvering, showcasing the IAF’s prowess. The exercise will witness the participation of more than 100 aircraft and helicopters, featuring several indigenous manufactured and designed aircraft such as Tejas, Prachand, and Dhruv.

Key components of the exercise will include air-to-air and surface-to-air missile systems, with firepower demonstrations by MICA, R-73, SAMAR, and Akash. The inclusion of these systems underlines the IAF’s commitment to maintaining cutting-edge capabilities.

The Indian Air Force said in a statement that a total of 77 fighter aircraft, including advanced platforms like Rafale, Jaguar, Mirage 2000, and Sukhoi 30 MKI, will be part of the Vayu Shakti 2024. Additionally, 41 helicopters, including MI 17 and Apache, along with five transport aircraft, including C130 and C17, will contribute to the comprehensive display of air power.

The exercise aims to not only showcase the prowess of the IAF but also enhance coordination and synergy among various aircraft and systems. The inclusion of indigenous platforms underscores the nation’s commitment to self-reliance and the advancement of its defence capabilities.
