PM Modi and Greek PM Mitsotakis pledge to double bilateral trade by 2030

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is currently visiting India, reiterated their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and doubling trade between the two nations by 2030. The leaders met in the national capital on Wednesday for discussions on various fronts.

During the meeting, PM Modi commended Greece for its decision to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, emphasizing the significance of Greece’s involvement in regional affairs. Additionally, both countries agreed to collaborate in the Eastern Mediterranean region and advance the development of the IMEC Corridor, which was initiated during India’s G20 presidency.

The leaders also pledged to reform global institutions such as the United Nations to better tackle contemporary challenges and promote global peace and stability. They announced plans to formulate an action plan to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Greece in 2025.

PM Modi stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation across diverse sectors, including agriculture, space, skill development, technology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. Shipping and connectivity emerged as key areas of mutual interest, with discussions centered on enhancing collaboration in these spheres.

PM Modi announced the establishment of a Working Group between India and Greece in defence and security, underscoring the deepening trust between the two nations. Both leaders emphasized the need for increased cooperation in defence manufacturing and the fight against terrorism.

Acknowledging the longstanding cultural and people-to-people bonds between India and Greece, PM Modi underscored the importance of modernizing these relations. Initiatives such as the Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement were explored to further bolster people-to-people ties.
