PM Modi and Mauritian PM jointly inaugurate new facilities and projects at Agalega Island

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth today jointly inaugurated several significant projects on Agalega Island via video conferencing. Among these projects were a new airstrip, St. James Jetty, and six community development initiatives.

Speaking at the event, Pravind Jugnauth praised the historic moment, hailing it as a testament to the exemplary partnership between the two nations. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for elevating the Mauritius-India relationship and highlighted India’s pivotal role in financing the projects. He commended India’s consistent support to Mauritius, particularly under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, and lauded India’s global influence and leadership.

PM Modi, in his address, emphasized the vibrant and unique partnership between India and Mauritius, citing it as a cornerstone of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ and Vision SAGAR. He highlighted the significant progress made in bilateral relations over the past decade, emphasizing common priorities and shared cultural ties. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Mauritius’s development priorities, emphasizing the country’s role as a reliable partner and first responder in times of need.

The Prime Minister underscored India’s substantial contributions to Mauritius’s development, including financial assistance, infrastructure projects, and support during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and oil spill incidents. He expressed satisfaction in fulfilling his promise to the people of Agalega, emphasizing the positive impact of the inaugurated projects on connectivity, administrative efficiency, and quality of life.

Addressing maritime security challenges in the Indian Ocean Region, PM Modi highlighted India and Mauritius’s natural partnership and their collaborative efforts in areas such as maritime surveillance, joint patrolling, and disaster relief. He stressed that the inauguration of the airstrip and jetty would further bolster cooperation between the two countries and enhance Mauritius’s blue economy.

PM Modi also praised Mauritius’s decision to establish Jan Ayushadhi Kendras, making it the first country to join India’s Jan Aushadhi initiative. He emphasized the benefits of providing high-quality, affordable generic medicines to the people of Mauritius.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated Prime Minister Jugnauth for his vision and leadership, expressing confidence in the continued growth and deepening of India-Mauritius relations.
