PM Modi holds talks with Qatari counterpart, discusses expansion of trade, investment, energy, and finance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Doha, Qatar’s capital, on Wednesday night, held talks with his counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, aimed at enhancing the relationship between New Delhi and Doha.

Following the meeting, PM Modi expressed his satisfaction with the discussions, describing them as productive. Taking to social media, Modi shared that he had a fruitful exchange with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, focusing on ways to strengthen the bonds of friendship between India and Qatar.

The External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted the positive outcomes of the talks, noting the broad scope of cooperation discussed, spanning sectors such as trade, investment, energy, and finance.

Modi’s visit to Doha comes after his successful trip to the UAE. Upon his arrival in Qatar, he was warmly welcomed and attended a dinner hosted by Qatar’s prime minister in his honor.

On Thursday, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to engage in discussions covering bilateral, regional, and global issues. Conveying his gratitude to the Indian diaspora in Doha for their warm reception, PM Modi said that he is looking forward to a fruitful visit that would deepen bilateral ties.

During his visit to the UAE, PM Modi participated in various significant events, including addressing the Indian diaspora, attending the World Governments Summit, and inaugurating the UAE’s first Hindu stone temple.

In his departure statement, Modi emphasized the historical closeness between India and Qatar, citing the growth in political exchanges, trade, investment, energy cooperation, and cultural and educational ties in recent years. He also underscored the significant presence of the Indian community in Doha, highlighting the strong people-to-people connections between the two nations.
